Tips for applying a decal using transfer tape
Materials Needed:
-
Decal with transfer tape applied
-
Clean, dry surface for application
-
Plastic squeegee or credit card
-
Masking tape (optional)
Step-by-Step Process:
1. Prepare the Surface
-
Ensure the surface where you’ll apply the decal is clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or residues. Use rubbing alcohol or mild soapy water to clean it, then let it dry completely.
2. Position the Decal
-
Without removing the backing paper yet, place the decal on the surface to find the correct position.
-
Use masking tape to temporarily hold it in place if needed. This ensures proper alignment.
3. Apply a Hinge (Optional but Recommended)
-
Place a strip of masking tape across the top of the decal (half on the decal, half on the surface) to act as a hinge. This allows you to lift the decal while keeping it aligned.
4. Remove the Backing Paper
-
Slowly lift the decal (with the transfer tape still attached) away from the surface while the hinge holds it in place.
-
Carefully peel the backing paper away from the decal, ensuring the vinyl remains adhered to the transfer tape.
5. Apply the Decal
-
Starting from the top, lower the decal with transfer tape onto the surface.
-
Use a squeegee or a credit card to firmly press the decal onto the surface, working from the center outward to remove any air bubbles.
6. Remove the Transfer Tape
-
Once the decal is adhered, slowly peel the transfer tape back at a sharp angle (close to 180 degrees) while keeping it as close to the surface as possible.
-
Pull gently to avoid lifting the decal.
